A note from Ann Moxey about the 3rd December workshop:
The Pre Christmas workshop to raise funds to pay for the teachers' transport costs from Mexico to the prisons in Atlacholoaya Morelos (we are now giving two classes back to back one to the male inmates and one to the women) was a resounding success.
This was not only due to the support given me by the other teachers who support the project (Fernando Aguinaco, Bindu de la Parra, Adela Pablos, Liluli Millan, Margarita Baz and Nicoletta Rossi - who all gave parts of the workshop) but also due to the art work the prisoners donated for the effort - a tray with a inlaid Mother Earth motif, a painting of the "Sleeping Woman" Iztaccihuatl Volcano, a couple of beautifully carved desk top pen holders and two incredibly creative pieces consisting of light bulbs on a wooden base with individually carved chalk sticks in the place of the electric filaments. One of these for example had "Anusara Yoga" carved around it like a serpent spiralling up a tree and with miniature figures striking yoga poses on one side and a goddess sitting in lotus at the very top. The Moma in New York would love one of those, I'm sure! It was thanks to the prisoners support that the workshop was the success it was. Amado Cavazos, one of the Prison Project yoga teachers lent his studio for the event.
We are planning another of these events for 28th January, in another donated space, this time in Yoga Espacio in the South of the city, Jnanadakini's new studio. The theme this time will be "Celebrating True Liberty" and the workshop will offer yoga resources for Stress, being an especially difficult time of the year, with many of us overspent after the end of year extravaganza!
